Protege

This project focuses on the development of a nonproliferation knowledgegraphs as an enabler for big data and machine learning in the nonproliferation domain.

Knowledgegraphs have not received much attention in the nonproliferation community but they have great potential. The basic idea is that if you have a well structured ontology covering all relevant topics, it becomes possible to form a common picture of the domain into which new data can be inserted. This also allows for the training of machine learning models on domain-specific problems.

Put another way, imagine having a tool that lets you link together all your data and that provides insight into this data that answers specific questions.

This incubator project seeks to build such a knowledgegraph. The structure of the knowledgegraph is called an ontology and  is stored in OWL format. The knowledgegraph itself is primarily stored in the POST platform using this ontology as its structure. Presently, the knowledgegraph includes entities, activities, equipment and facilities and locations associated with most nuclear and nuclear-related missile programs.
